Frances Bean Cobain: I don't really like Nirvana, I prefer Oasis or Billie Eilish

The daughter of late frontman Kurt Cobain opened up about him.

The daughter of Courtney Love and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain told Rolling Stone, "I don't really like Nirvana that much [grins]. Sorry, promotional people, Universal. I'm more into Mercury Rev, Billie Eilish , Oasis, Brian Jonestown Massacre [laughs]."

Still, Frances Bean admitted she cries every time she hears "Dumb" from Nirvana's "In Utero" album, and describes "Territorial Pissings" off "Nevermind" as a "great song."

About "Dumb," Bean said, "It's a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself -- of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation."

"He's larger than life and our culture is obsessed with dead musicians," Frances Bean added to Rolling Stone. "We love to put them on a pedestal. If Kurt had just been another guy who abandoned his family in the most awful way possible . . . But he wasn't. He inspired people to put him on a pedestal, to become St. Kurt. He became even bigger after he died than he was when he was alive. You don't think it could have gotten any bigger. But it did.

Noel Gallagher once explained that the lyrics of the Oasis song “Live Forever” were inspired in part by Nirvana…

“At the time . . . it was written in the middle of grunge and all that, and I remember Nirvana had a tune called ‘I Hate Myself and Want to Die’, and I was like . . . ‘Well, I’m not fucking having that.’ As much as I fucking like him  [Kurt Cobain] and all that shit, I’m not having that. I can’t have people like that coming over here, on smack, fucking saying that they hate themselves and they wanna die. That’s fucking rubbish. Kids don’t need to be hearing that nonsense.”
