Frances Bean Cobain Bought a $2 Million Los Angeles House In The Hills.

Frances Bean Cobain's New Million-Dollar House In The Hills.

It’s hard to believe that the only child of famously troubled rockers Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love is nearing her 30s. Frances Bean Cobain was just a one year old toddler at the time of her father’s 1994 death; since then, she’s inherited millions, created visual art, experienced marriage and divorce, and dealt with substance abuse issues of her own.

Now sober and happily single, the rock ‘n’ roll heiress has splashed out $2 million for an authentic 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival residence in the Hollywood Hills. Set high above the street, the towering house clings to the side of a nearly sheer cliff, with leafy sunset views of the surrounding mountains.

Out front, the property has a two-car garage set hard up against the road. From there, a gated staircase wraps up and around the hillside on its way to the front door, meaning guests and vendors alike will get a glute-busting workout when they visit Cobain, all free of charge. As for the house itself, it consists of a main structure that spans just under 2,400 square feet of living space with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a tri-level, 541-square-foot guest cottage with another bedroom and two additional baths.

The main house offers a sun-kissed living room with big picture windows and a fireplace that adjoins a formal entryway lined with mosaic black-and-white tile. There’s also a fully-renovated kitchen with top-notch stainless appliances, a farmhouse sink, and a decidedly informal dining area that consists of a big wooden table with wooden bench seating next to a pizza oven. Somewhere upstairs lies the master bedroom, which includes a contemporary ensuite bathroom with dual vanities and a buit-in soaking tub/combo shower.

For its part, the guesthouse is accessed via a charming Dutch door painted a Robin’s egg blue. Amenities include a combo living/dining room with hardwood floors stained an rich ebony, plus there’s an open kitchenette with bar seating for casual dining. Outside, much of the .29-acre property is unusable hillside, but there’s still a terraced upper yard with a wee patch of grass and some colorful bougainvillea plants.

This house purchase hardly represents Cobain’s first run on the real estate rodeo, of course. Back in 2011, she shoveled out about $1.9 million for another Hollywood Hills Spanish-style property that she sold for $2.4 million in 2018, not long after her tumultuous divorce from Isaiah Silva.

Jackie Smith of Compass held the listing; Laura Kay, also of Compass, repped Cobain.
