Director Matt Reeves explained Nirvana's influence on his Batman film noir in an interview with Esquire, comparing "Wayne" to Cobain, saying they're both addicts in a way.
“In the beginning, when he was writing, he started listening to Nirvana, and there was something in 'Something in the Way', which is in the first trailer, that is part of the voice of that character (…) Is he a moody guy, reckless and drug addict? And the truth is, he's kind of a junkie. His drug is his addiction to this drive for revenge. He's like a Kurt Cobain from Batman."
